Paul and Sue’s adventure into farming started in 2011, when 9 acres of organic grassland was acquired adjacent to the family home in Salford, Bedfordshire. After considerable work in carrying out fencing and new hedge planting, to provided stock proof enclosures, we acquired six young pigs, Oxford Sandy and Black weaner’s and established the Lady May Herd. This was soon followed by Paul’s diversification from Architecture to concentrate on establishing a small fold of pedigree highland cattle, The Harris Fold. Paul’s profession as a London based Architect was quite a contrast to the management of livestock and rural life. However, the key values of animal husbandry had a big impact on keeping Paul sane in the commercial world of London architecture. Two years later in January 2013 Sunnyside Rare Breeds Limited was established as a result of taking on further land to accommodate increased stock numbers and therefore, taking us from a small holding to a family-run farm with over 60 acres. We had a brief venture with Herdwick sheep in 2020/21 starting Harris Herdwicks Sue has a life long passion for horses and following twenty years of Further Education course management and lecturing in Equine and Farriery. More recently, Sue has been delighted to provide a well earned retirement for two hard working college horses Dear Magic and Jolie.
